A free otome game about angels and demons

Deliver Us From Evil—abbreviated as DUFE—is a free simulation video game wherein you must investigate a strange occurrence regarding the wishes of humans. Developed by Galen Games, this 2D indie mystery visual novel is a female-oriented dating sim game that puts you in the shoes of a guardian angel on a mission.

Similar to games like Peachleaf Valley: Seeds of Love, Deliver Us From Evil features romanceable characters, multiple endings for each character route, and even voiced dialogue for a more immersive experience. There are hints of some LGBT representation within the story, as well.

The clash between Heaven and Hell

In Deliver Us From Evil, you play as Ariel the guardian angel, who has been tasked with investigating the mysterious events that led to a hapless town suddenly amassing huge amounts of demonic energy. You will be aided by the Archangel Michael and must come in contact with the Nephilim, Keldran, to proceed. Along the way, you also encounter the mysterious Ace with whom you keep crossing paths.

Only Michael and Ace are available in the main game as love interests, with Keldran locked behind the DLC. Their numerous endings don’t follow the same pattern in most VNs as some aren’t actually bad endings and even hint at LGBT relationships. You can unlock 6 beautifully drawn CGs and even replay scenes in the Extras section. While you can’t customize your character here, the plot still flows smoothly.

This is thanks to the extensive and immersive writing—clock at over 45,000 words alone. The dialogue is mostly voiced for the three male characters, as well, which makes the game even livelier as you explore all routes. The only downside here is that while the gameplay of choosing dialogue or action options remains the same, you can’t save while they’re displayed so you have to save often.

Could still use some adjustments

All in all, Deliver Us From Evil is a great mystery otome game to try out if you like the themes of heaven and hell conflicting with each other on Earth. While only two of the men are romanceable in the main game and you can’t save while choosing what to do, the story and art still make for an amazing and romantic experience—especially because of the voice actors’ performances.
